She suggested going to the cinema. He promised to call. He denied taking it.

  • warn, advise, remind, invite は人+to+動詞、insist は that 節、accuse は人+of+-ing です

""Let's go to the cinema," she said. → She suggested going to the cinema."

suggest, admit, deny は -ing 形を続け、apologize は for+-ing を続けます。 日本語の「〜しようと提案した」につられて “suggested to go” としがちですが、正しくは “She suggested going to the cinema.” She suggested that we go / that we should go.

admit と deny は、日本語の「〜したことを認めた」「〜したことを否定した」の「こと」が -ing 形にあたると考えると覚えやすいでしょう:“She denied taking the money.”(“denied to take” は間違い)。 admit は to+-ing(admitted to breaking)も可能ですが、to+動詞の原形(admitted to break)は間違いです。 He admitted (that) he hadn't read my email.

He apologized for being late です。謝る相手を言うなら to が必要で、“He apologized me” ではなく He apologized to me です(イギリス英語では apologise とも書きます)。

"She suggested going to the cinema."
"He admitted breaking the vase."
"She denied taking the money."
"He apologized for being late."

「電話すると約束した」= promised to call、「サインするのを断った」= refused to sign、「運ぶよと申し出た」= offered to carry です。

まず「引き受けた」「同意した」は agree to で、accept は使いません:“He agreed to do it.”(“He accepted to do it” は間違い)。 次に「手伝おうかと言ってくれた」は “He offered to help me.” で、人は2つ目の動詞のあとに来ます(“He offered me to help” は間違い)。 He promised to call me とします。 He promised me (that) he would call.

"He promised to call me."
"She refused to sign it."
"He agreed to do it."
"He offered to help me."

He warned me not to go near the edge. advice は不可算名詞なので、a piece of advice とします。

(He insisted that I stay。 イギリス英語では that I should stay もよく使われます。insist on+-ing(He insisted on me staying)という形もあります。 insist+人+to(“insisted me to stay”)も間違いです。

accuse は人+of+-ing です:She accused me of breaking her phone. of のあとは -ing 形なので、“accused me of break” も “accused me to break” も間違いです。“accused me that I broke” も使えません。

He explained that… か He explained to me that…

"He warned me not to go near the edge."
"He insisted that I stay for dinner."
"She accused me of breaking her phone."

"She advised me to see a doctor."
"He explained that he had been late because of traffic."
"She reminded me not to forget my keys."
"He offered to carry the bags."

注意

✗He explained me that he was late.
✓He explained to me that he was late. / He explained that he was late.

✗She suggested to go to the cinema.
✓She suggested going to the cinema.

suggest は -ing 形をとります(または that 節:She suggested that we go)。「私に」を入れた suggested me to go も間違いです。

✗She denied to take the money.
✓She denied taking the money.

✗He apologized me for being late.
✓He apologized to me for being late.

「私に謝った」は apologized to me です。

✗She accused me of break her phone.
✓She accused me of breaking her phone.

apologized for being late

✗He accepted to do it.
✓He agreed to do it.

✗He warned not to go near the edge.
✓He warned me not to go near the edge.

to+動詞をとるのは promise, refuse, agree, offer(人を入れるなら warn, advise, remind, invite)。suggest, admit, deny は -ing 形です:“She suggested going to the cinema”, “She denied taking the money”. “suggested to go” や “denied to take” は間違いです。

「取ったことを否定した」= denied taking、「遅れたことを謝った」= apologized for being late。前置詞のあとは必ずこの -ing 形です:accused me of breaking, insisted on paying.

英語の explain, suggest, apologize は、すぐあとに人を置けません:“He explained (to me) that he was late”, “He apologized to me”, “She suggested going…”. 人をすぐあとに置けるのは warn, advise, remind, tell, accuse などです:“She advised me to see a doctor”, “He warned me not to go near the edge”.

「〜することを引き受けた/同意した」は agree to+動詞です:“He agreed to do it.” accept のあとは名詞(accept an offer, accept the job)で、to+動詞は続きません。

💡 前置詞のあとは必ず -ing:accused me of breaking, apologized for being late, insisted on paying.

💡 「私に説明した」= explained to me、「私に謝った」= apologized to me、「引き受けた」= agreed to.

"How did the meeting go?"

"Not great. He accused me of missing the deadline, but I explained that the client changed the brief twice."

"Did he apologize?"

"Eventually. He admitted he hadn't read my email and promised to double-check next time."
