at the weekend も on the weekend も意味は同じで、前置詞が違うだけです。

  • イギリス英語は “at the weekend”、アメリカ英語は “on the weekend”。
  • イギリス英語は “fill in a form”、アメリカ英語は “fill out a form”。「記入する」を “write a form” や “fill a form” にはしない
  • イギリス英語は “Monday to Friday”、アメリカ英語は “Monday through Friday”。
  • イギリス英語は “in a team”、アメリカ英語は “on a team”
  • 時刻:イギリス英語は past(five past ten)、アメリカ英語は after もよく使う(five after ten。

"イギリス英語:at the weekend / アメリカ英語:on the weekend"
"イギリス英語:fill in a form / アメリカ英語:fill out a form"

イギリス英語は at the weekend、Monday to Friday、アメリカ英語は on the weekend、Monday through Friday と言います(through は金曜日も含むことをはっきり示します)。

until は主に「〜まで(ずっと)」という終わりの時点を表します:“The shop is open until six”、“I'm away until Friday”。

「10時15分」は a quarter past ten、「11時15分前」は a quarter to eleven です。

I'll see you at the weekend."
I'll see you on the weekend."
The store is open Monday to Saturday."
The store is open Monday through Saturday."

in か out は必ず必要で、「記入する」を “fill a form” や “write a form” とは言いません。

イギリス英語は in the team、アメリカ英語は on the team です。日本語の「バスケ部に所属しています」を “I belong to the basketball team.” “I'm on the basketball team.”(アメリカ英語)や “I play in the basketball team.”(イギリス英語)のほうが自然です。

“I study at the university.”

Fill in your details here. Fill out your details here."
She plays in the national team. She plays on the national team."

"British: Could you fill in this form and hand it back to me at the weekend?"
"American: Could you fill out this form and hand it back to me on the weekend?"
"British: The gym is open Monday to Friday, and she plays in the staff football team."
"American: The gym is open Monday through Friday, and she plays on the staff soccer team."

注意

✗'On the weekend' is incorrect — it should always be 'at the weekend.'
✓Both are correct: 'at the weekend' is British, 'on the weekend' is American.

✗Please fill in out this form.
✓Please fill in this form. (British) OR Please fill out this form. (American)

✗It's ten half.
✓It's half past ten.

✗What are you doing in the weekend?
✓What are you doing at the weekend?

at the weekend(イギリス英語)、on the weekend(アメリカ英語)、または this weekend と言います。

✗This city is different with my hometown.
✓This city is different from my hometown.

✗Please write this form.
✓Please fill in this form.

「用紙に記入する」は fill in(イギリス英語)または fill out(アメリカ英語)。in / out のない fill this form も間違いです。

She belongs to the basketball team.
✓She's on the basketball team.

アメリカ英語では on the team、イギリス英語では in the team が自然です。

英語では分が先で、その後に past(アメリカ英語では after も)または to を置きます:“five past ten”、“five after ten”、“half past ten”、“a quarter to eleven”。

週末はイギリス英語で “at the weekend”、アメリカ英語で “on the weekend” で、“in the weekend” とは言いません。期間は “Monday to Friday”(イギリス英語)/ “Monday through Friday”(アメリカ英語)です。

どちらでも安心して使えるのは “different from” です:“different from what I expected”。

チームのメンバーであることは、イギリス英語で “in the team”、アメリカ英語で “on the team” と言います:“She plays in the national team.” / “She plays on the national team.”

💡 「週末に」→ at the weekend(イギリス英語)/ on the weekend(アメリカ英語)。in the weekend とは言いません。

💡 「10時半」→ half past ten(または ten thirty)。分が先、その後に past / after / to。

💡 「月曜から金曜まで」→ Monday to Friday(イギリス英語)/ Monday through Friday(アメリカ英語)。

"The receptionist asked me to fill out this form, but I kept writing 'fill in' out of habit."

"Ha, that happens — it's the same form either way, just a different verb depending on where you are."

"Good to know. Anything else I should watch for while I'm here?"

"Just listen for 'on the weekend' instead of 'at the weekend' — that one trips people up too."
