Pāru saikļi

B2 · Augstāks par vidējoSaikļi un saistītājvārdi

She is both talented and hard-working. He speaks neither French nor Spanish.

  • Pāru saikļi un to latviešu atbilsmes: both … and (gan … gan), either … or (vai nu … vai), neither … nor (ne … ne), not only … but also (ne tikai … bet arī), whether … or (vai … vai, neatkarīgi no tā, vai …)
  • Abām savienotajām daļām jābūt vienādā gramatiskā formā (paralēla uzbūve)
  • Ar either … or un neither … nor izteicējs saskaņojas ar tuvāko teikuma priekšmetu; ar both … and – vienmēr daudzskaitlī
  • Ja not only ir teikuma sākumā, notiek inversija ar palīgdarbības vārdu (Not only did she …)

Saikļi, kas nāk pa pāriem

Atšķirībā no vienkārša saikļa, piemēram, and, pāru saiklis sastāv no diviem vārdiem, kas iet kopā un savieno divas gramatiski līdzvērtīgas daļas.

Sistēmu tu pazīsti no latviešu valodas: gandrīz katram pārim ir sava atbilsme. Svarīgi ir lietot pareizo pāri. Latviski „gan“ atkārtojas abās daļās, bet angliski pāris ir both … and (nevis both … both). Either iet kopā ar or, bet neither – ar nor.

Un viena būtiska atšķirība: latviski saki „Viņš nerunā ne franciski, ne vāciski“ – ar noliegumu darbības vārdā un vēl ar „ne … ne“. Angliski neither … nor jau ir noliegums, tāpēc doesn't nepievieno: „He speaks neither French nor German.“ Ja gribi lietot doesn't, tad pāris ir either … or: „He doesn't speak either French or German.“

"She is both talented and hard-working."

Latviešu „vai tēju, vai kafiju“ angliski nav „or tea or coffee“, bet „either tea or coffee“ – sākumā liek either, nevis or. Katru pāra vārdu liec tieši pirms daļas, ko tas ievada: „We can go either by train or by bus.“ Un but also nāk kopā, pirms otrā darbības vārda – tieši kā latviešu „bet arī“: „She not only sings but also plays the piano.“ Tas pats attiecas uz whether … or („vai … vai“, „neatkarīgi no tā, vai …“): whether vienmēr iet kopā ar or, nekad ar and – „whether the express or the local“, „whether it rains or not“.

"He not only writes novels but also directs films. (darbības vārds + darbības vārds)"
"She is not only a doctor but also a writer. (lietvārds + lietvārds)"

Saskaņošana ar either/neither

Ja either … or vai neither … nor savieno divus dažādus teikuma priekšmetus, izteicējs saskaņojas ar to teikuma priekšmetu, kas ir tuvāk darbības vārdam, nevis automātiski ar pirmo.

Latviski ar „ne … ne“ bieži lieto daudzskaitli: „Ne lidojums, ne viesnīca nebija atmaksājami.“ Formālajā angļu valodā ar diviem vienskaitļa teikuma priekšmetiem lieto vienskaitli: „Neither the flight nor the hotel was refundable.“ Sarunvalodā dzird arī daudzskaitli. Both … and turpretī vienmēr veido daudzskaitļa teikuma priekšmetu: „Both the manager and the team agree.“

"Neither the manager nor the employees were happy."
"Either the players or the coach is responsible."

Angļu valoda ikdienā

"Both the design and the price convinced me to buy it."
"You can either call me or send a message."
"Neither the flight nor the hotel was refundable."
"Not only did she finish first, but she also broke the record."

Uzmanību

✗She not only enjoys reading but also to write.
✓She not only enjoys reading but also writes.

Abām daļām vajag vienādu gramatisko formu: šeit divus personas formā lietotus darbības vārdus, nevis darbības vārdu un nenoteiksmi ar to.

✗You can have either tea and coffee.
✓You can have either tea or coffee.

Ar and teikumam nav jēgas.

✗Neither the cat nor the dogs was fed.
✓Neither the cat nor the dogs were fed.

Izteicējs saskaņojas ar tuvāko teikuma priekšmetu: šeit tas ir daudzskaitlis dogs, tāpēc were.

✗He doesn't speak neither French nor German.
✓He speaks neither French nor German.

✗She speaks both English, both French.
✓She speaks both English and French.

Latviski „gan …, gan …“ atkārtojas, bet angliski pāris ir both … and.

✗You can have or tea or coffee.
✓You can have either tea or coffee.

✗Not only she won the race, but she also broke the record.
✓Not only did she win the race, but she also broke the record.

Not only teikuma sākumā prasa inversiju ar palīgdarbības vārdu (did she win), lai gan latviski „Ne tikai viņa uzvarēja…“ iztiek bez tā.

Salīdzinājums ar tavu valodu

„Viņš nerunā ne franciski, ne vāciski“: latviski „ne … ne“ prasa arī noliegumu darbības vārdā

Angliski noliegumus nekrāj: neither … nor jau ir noliegums. „He doesn't speak neither French nor German“ ir nepareizi. Saki „He speaks neither French nor German“ vai, ar doesn't, „He doesn't speak either French or German“.

„Viņa runā gan angliski, gan franciski“: latviski „gan“ atkārtojas abās daļās

Angliski pāris ir both … and: „She speaks both English and French.“ Both neatkārto otrajā daļā. Izteiciens as well as darbojas bez both: „She speaks English as well as French.“

Angliski pirmais vārds ir either, otrais – or: „You can have either tea or coffee.“ „Or tea or coffee“ ir nepareizi. Noliegumā (latviešu „ne … ne“) ir neither … nor.

„Ne tikai viņa finišēja pirmā, bet arī uzstādīja rekordu“: latviski palīgdarbības vārds nav vajadzīgs

„Ne tikai … bet arī“ gandrīz vārds vārdā atbilst not only … but also. Taču, ja teikumu sāc ar not only, angliski vajag jautājuma secību ar palīgdarbības vārdu: „Not only did she finish first, but she also broke the record.“ „Not only she finished first“ ir nepareizi. Bez uzsvara ir vienkāršāk: „She not only finished first but also broke the record.“

Formālajā angļu valodā izteicējs saskaņojas ar tuvāko teikuma priekšmetu: „Neither the cat nor the dogs were fed“, bet „Either the players or the coach is responsible“. Padoms: liec daudzskaitļa teikuma priekšmetu beigās, un teikums skanēs dabiskāk.

💡 „Ne … ne“ ir neither … nor, un to lieto bez doesn't: He speaks neither French nor German.

💡 „Gan … gan“ = both … and, nevis both … both; „vai nu … vai“ = either … or.

💡 Vai not only ir sākumā? Liec palīgdarbības vārdu pirms teikuma priekšmeta: Not only did she …

💡 Ar either … or / neither … nor nosaka tuvākais teikuma priekšmets; both … and – vienmēr daudzskaitlis.

Situācija no dzīves: ēdienkartes plānošana

"What should we serve — pasta or a salad?"

"Let's do both — a pasta dish and a salad."

"Good idea. And for dessert, either cake or fruit."

"Neither one is wrong — let's just get both and let people choose."
