Poriniai jungtukai

B2 · Aukštesnysis vidutinisJungtukai ir jungiamieji žodžiai

She is both talented and hard-working. He speaks neither French nor Spanish.

  • Jei not only stovi sakinio pradžioje, reikia inversijos su pagalbiniu veiksmažodžiu (Not only did she …)

Jungtukai, kurie eina poromis

Skirtingai nuo paprasto jungtuko, pavyzdžiui, and, porinis jungtukas susideda iš dviejų žodžių, kurie eina kartu ir jungia dvi gramatiškai lygiavertes dalis.

Sistemą jau pažįsti iš lietuvių kalbos: beveik kiekviena pora turi atitikmenį. Svarbiausia – vartoti teisingą porą ir nekartoti to paties žodžio, nors lietuviškai jį kartojame. „Ir anglų, ir prancūzų“ yra both English and French, ne „and English and French“. „Arba arbatos, arba kavos“ yra either tea or coffee, ne „or tea or coffee“. Both eina su and, either – su or, neither – su nor.

Angliškai neither … nor jau turi neigimą, todėl doesn't nepridėk: „He speaks neither French nor Spanish.“ Jei nori vartoti doesn't, tada pora yra either … or: „He doesn't speak either French or Spanish.“

"She is both talented and hard-working."
"He speaks neither French nor Spanish."

Lygiagreti sandara

Kiekvieną poros žodį dėk tiesiai prieš tą dalį, kurią jis įveda: „We can go either by train or by bus.“ Lietuviškas „bet ir“ angliškai yra but also – šie žodžiai eina kartu prieš antrąjį veiksmažodį: „She not only sings but also plays the piano.“ Tas pats galioja ir whether … or („ar … ar“, „nesvarbu, ar … ar“): whether visada eina su or, niekada su and: „whether the express or the local“, „whether it rains or not“.

"He not only writes novels but also directs films. (veiksmažodis + veiksmažodis)"
"She is not only a doctor but also a writer. (daiktavardis + daiktavardis)"

Angliškai reikia pasirinkti was ar were. Oficialioje kalboje su dviem vienaskaitos veiksniais – vienaskaita: „Neither the flight nor the hotel was refundable.“ Neformaliai girdėsi ir daugiskaitą. O both … and visada sudaro daugiskaitos veiksnį: „Both the manager and the team agree.“

"Neither the manager nor the employees were happy."
"Either the players or the coach is responsible."

Anglų kalba kasdienybėje

"Both the design and the price convinced me to buy it."
"You can either call me or send a message."
"Neither the flight nor the hotel was refundable."
"Not only did she finish first, but she also broke the record."

Atkreipk dėmesį

✗She not only enjoys reading but also to write.
✓She not only enjoys reading but also writes.

Abiem dalims reikia tos pačios gramatinės formos: čia dviejų asmenuojamų veiksmažodžių, o ne veiksmažodžio ir bendraties.

✗She speaks and English and French.
✓She speaks both English and French.

Tai pažodžiui išverstas „ir angliškai, ir prancūziškai“. Pirmasis „ir“ angliškai yra both.

✗You can have or tea or coffee.
✓You can have either tea or coffee.

Lietuviškas „arba … arba“ angliškai yra either … or. Pirmojo or nekartok.

✗You can have either tea and coffee.
✓You can have either tea or coffee.

Su and sakinys neturi prasmės.

✗Neither the cat nor the dogs was fed.
✓Neither the cat nor the dogs were fed.

Tarinys derinamas su artimesniu veiksniu: čia tai daugiskaitos dogs, todėl were.

✗He doesn't speak neither French nor German.
✓He speaks neither French nor German.

✗Not only she won the race, but she also broke the record.
✓Not only did she win the race, but she also broke the record.

Not only sakinio pradžioje reikalauja inversijos su pagalbiniu veiksmažodžiu (did she win), nors lietuviškai jos nėra.

Palyginimas su tavo kalba

„Ji kalba ir angliškai, ir prancūziškai“: lietuviškai kartojame tą patį jungtuką „ir“

Angliškai pirmasis žodis yra kitas: both … and. „She speaks both English and French.“ „And English and French“ yra klaida. Lietuviškas „tiek … tiek“ angliškai irgi both … and. Yra ir variantas be both: „She speaks English as well as French.“

„Gali gerti arba arbatą, arba kavą“: lietuviškai kartojame „arba“

Angliškai pirmasis poros žodis yra either: „You can have either tea or coffee.“ „Or tea or coffee“ angliškai neegzistuoja. Ir either niekada nejungiamas su and.

„Jis nekalba nei prancūziškai, nei vokiškai“: lietuviškai „nei … nei“ eina su neigiamu veiksmažodžiu

Angliškai neigimai nesikaupia: neither … nor jau yra neigiamas. „He doesn't speak neither French nor German“ yra klaida. Sakyk „He speaks neither French nor German“ arba su doesn't – „He doesn't speak either French or German“.

„Ji ne tik atbėgo pirma, bet ir pagerino rekordą“: lietuviškai „ne tik“ gali stovėti įvairiose vietose, o pagalbinio veiksmažodžio nereikia

Jei pradedi sakinį žodžiais not only, angliškai reikia klausiamojo sakinio žodžių tvarkos su pagalbiniu veiksmažodžiu: „Not only did she finish first, but she also broke the record.“ „Not only she finished first“ yra klaida. Jei pabrėžti nereikia, paprasčiau: „She not only finished first but also broke the record.“

Angliškai turi rinktis was ar were, is ar are. Su either … or ir neither … nor lemia artimesnis veiksnys: „Neither the cat nor the dogs were fed“, bet „Either the players or the coach is responsible“. Gudrybė: daugiskaitos veiksnį dėk antrą, ir sakinys skambės natūraliau.

💡 „Nei … nei“ yra neither … nor be doesn't: He speaks neither French nor Spanish.

💡 „Ir … ir“ = both … and, „arba … arba“ = either … or – pirmojo žodžio nekartok.

💡 Not only sakinio pradžioje? Dėk pagalbinį veiksmažodį prieš veiksnį: Not only did she …

💡 Su either … or ir neither … nor lemia artimesnis veiksnys; both … and – visada daugiskaita.

Situacija iš gyvenimo: planuojame meniu

"What should we serve — pasta or a salad?"

"Let's do both — a pasta dish and a salad."

"Good idea. And for dessert, either cake or fruit."

"Neither one is wrong — let's just get both and let people choose."
