Il future perfect continuous

C1 · AvanzatoIl futuro

  • La forma will have been + verbo in -ing (I will have been working, she will have been studying)

La durata va quasi sempre con for: for five years, for six hours.

By June, I will have been working here for five years.»

"By June, I will have been working here for five years."
"By 10pm, she will have been studying for six hours."

Come si forma: will have been + verbo in -ing

La forma ha tre parti fisse: will + have been + verbo in -ing. Per non perdere been, pensa che è il present perfect continuous (have been working) con will davanti. have resta sempre have, anche con he/she/it: she will have been, mai she will has been.

Negazione: won't (will not) have been + -ing. Domanda: will va prima del soggetto. «They won't have been living here long by then.» «Will you have been waiting long by the time I arrive?» Dopo by the time c'è il present simple, dove l'italiano usa spesso il futuro («quando arriverai»): by the time I arrive, mai by the time I will arrive.

"They won't have been living here long by then."
"Will you have been waiting long by the time I arrive?"

Future perfect continuous o future perfect?

Il future perfect (will have + participio passato) corrisponde al futuro anteriore italiano («avrò finito») e sottolinea che qualcosa sarà concluso entro un certo momento. Il future perfect continuous (will have been + -ing) sottolinea da quanto tempo qualcosa sarà in corso; se poi continua o no, resta aperto.

I verbi di stato come know, own, be o belong, invece, non vogliono -ing. «A giugno saranno dieci anni che la conosco» → «By June, I will have known her for ten years», non «will have been knowing».

"By the time he retires, he will have been teaching for 30 years. (durata)"
"By the time he retires, he will have finished the project. (azione conclusa)"

Chiedere la durata

La parola interrogativa tipica è how long: chiede da quanto tempo qualcosa sarà in corso quando arriverà un momento del futuro. In italiano: «A dicembre, quanto tempo avrai vissuto qui?» → «How long will you have been living here by December?»

Ci sono anche le domande sì/no: will va all'inizio e il resto rimane unito. «Will they have been traveling for 24 hours by then?»

"How long will you have been living here by December?"
"Will they have been traveling for 24 hours by then?"

Esempi di inglese reale

"By next year, she will have been running the company for a decade."
"By the time you arrive, we will have been waiting for two hours."
"By the end of the month, he will have been living abroad for a year."
"By next month, we will have been dating for a year."

Attenzione

✗By June, I will have working here for five years.
✓By June, I will have been working here for five years.

Non dimenticare been: will have been + -ing. Sono tre pezzi, e nessuno può mancare.

✗By next month, we will have been date for a year.
✓By next month, we will have been dating for a year.

Dopo will have been c'è la forma in -ing, non la forma base.

✗By the time you arrive, we will be waiting for two hours.
✓By the time you arrive, we will have been waiting for two hours.

Per dire da quanto tempo qualcosa sarà in corso in un momento futuro («quando arriverai, saremo qui ad aspettare da due ore») ti serve will have been + -ing. Will be waiting dice solo che in quel momento staremo aspettando, non da quanto tempo.

✗Within June, I will have been working here for five years.
✓By June, I will have been working here for five years.

«Entro giugno» o «a giugno» come momento limite è by June. within va con una durata (within two weeks), for con la durata dell'azione (for five years).

✗In June, it will be five years that I work here.
✓By June, I will have been working here for five years.

In inglese la struttura «it will be… that» non funziona: usa for e will have been + -ing.

✗By June, I will have been knowing her for ten years.
✓By June, I will have known her for ten years.

I verbi di stato come know, own o belong non vogliono -ing: qui usi il future perfect (will have + participio passato).

Se traduci parola per parola escono frasi come «In June it will be five years that I work here» o «In June I will work here since five years», che non sono inglese corretto. E «In June I will work here for five years» significa un'altra cosa: sembra che tu cominci a giugno e resti cinque anni. By June, I will have been working here for five years.» (Si può dire anche «In June it will be five years since I started working here», con since + past simple.)

«A giugno», «entro giugno», «fino a giugno», «quando arriverai»

In inglese, con le forme perfette, il momento limite si indica con by: by June = «a giugno, entro giugno», guardando indietro da quel momento. È la parola chiave: «By June, …», «By the time you arrive, …». Within va solo con una durata (within two weeks), e until significa «fino a» nel senso di «per tutto il tempo fino ad allora, poi basta»: «I'll be here until June.» Per questo «Until June, I will have been working here for five years» e «Within June, I will have been working here…» sono sbagliati.

«A giugno saranno dieci anni che la conosco» → «By June, I will have known her for ten years», non «will have been knowing».

= By June, … will have been + -ing … for five years.

💡 «A giugno / entro giugno» = by June, non in o within June; until vuol dire «per tutto il tempo fino a».

💡 will have been + -ing: tre pezzi, nessuno può mancare, tranne con i verbi di stato come know (will have known).

Situazione reale: un anniversario

"How long have you two been together now?"

"By next month, we will have been dating for a year!"

"That's a big milestone. Any plans?"

"We're thinking of a trip to celebrate."
