Il future perfect

B2 · Intermedio superioreIl futuro

  • La forma: will have + participio passato (I will have graduated, she will have finished)
  • Le parole tipiche: by, by the time, by next year, by then, e perché «entro venerdì» è by Friday, non within Friday

Lo conosci già: «Entro l'anno prossimo mi sarò laureato» → «By next year, I will have graduated.» I pezzi corrispondono: sarò laureato / avrò finito = will have graduated / will have finished.

"By next year, I will have graduated."
"By 6pm, she will have finished the report."

La forma: will have + participio passato

Il future perfect si forma con will have e il participio passato (past participle) del verbo principale. A differenza di avrò/avrai/avrà, will have non cambia mai: I will have, she will have, they will have. Mai «she will has». E vale anche per i verbi che in italiano vogliono essere: «sarò partito» è «I will have left», non «I will be left». La negazione è will not have o won't have, e nelle domande will va prima del soggetto. Nella conversazione will di solito si contrae: I'll have finished.

Dopo will have c'è sempre il participio passato (finished, left, eaten), non la forma base del verbo: «She will have finished», non «She will have finish». E have non si può omettere: «I will graduated» è sbagliato.

"We won't have arrived by then."
"Will you have finished by Friday?"

Le parole tipiche

Il future perfect va quasi sempre con un'espressione che fissa una scadenza nel futuro: by, by the time, by next year, by then. Senza una scadenza di solito suona più naturale will semplice o will be doing.

«Quando leggerai questa lettera» o «nel momento in cui leggerai questa lettera» è by the time, e dopo by the time (come dopo when e before) c'è il present simple, non will. Qui l'italiano ti inganna, perché usa il futuro: «Quando leggerai questa lettera, sarò già partito» → «By the time you read this, I will have left.»

"By the time you read this, I will have left."
"By 2030, scientists will have developed new treatments."

Future perfect o will semplice?

Aggiungere already («già») a will semplice non lo trasforma in future perfect: «I will graduate already» è sbagliato.

In inglese will have è possibile in questo senso (You'll have heard the news), ma la forma normale è must have: He must have missed the train.

"He will save money next year. (un'azione nel futuro)"
"He will have saved enough money by the summer. (conclusa entro quel momento)"

Esempi di inglese reale

"By midnight, the storm will have passed."
"By the time we land, they will have started the meeting."
"Will she have completed the course by June?"
"By 2028, the company will have doubled its revenue."

Attenzione

✗I will have finished the report within Friday.
✓I will have finished the report by Friday.

Calco di «entro venerdì». Con una data o un'ora la scadenza è by; within va solo con una durata (within two days).

✗By next year, I will graduated.
✓By next year, I will have graduated.

have non può mancare: il future perfect ha bisogno di will have, non solo di will, davanti al participio passato.

✗By 6pm, she will have finish the report.
✓By 6pm, she will have finished the report.

Dopo will have c'è il participio passato (finished), non la forma base del verbo.

✗By next year, I will graduate already.
✓By next year, I will have graduated.

already («già») non trasforma will semplice in future perfect: ti serve will have + participio passato, come in «mi sarò già laureato».

✗He will has saved enough money by the summer.
✓He will have saved enough money by the summer.

Anche se in italiano l'ausiliare cambia (avrò, avrà), dopo will c'è sempre have, anche con he/she/it.

✗By the time you will read this, I will have left.
✓By the time you read this, I will have left.

In inglese la scadenza si indica con by: «by Friday», «by 6pm», «by then». «Within Friday» non esiste: within va con una durata («within two days» = «entro due giorni»). «For Friday» esiste, ma dice per quale giorno è qualcosa (a cake for Friday; I need it for Friday), non entro quando sarà concluso.

In inglese dopo by the time, when, before e as soon as si usa il present simple, anche se il senso è futuro: «By the time you read this, I will have left», non «by the time you will read this».

avrò = will have, finito = finished. La differenza è che l'ausiliare italiano cambia con la persona (avrò, avrai, avrà) e con il verbo (avrò finito, ma sarò partito), mentre will have è uguale per tutti e per tutti i verbi: «she will have finished», «she will have left», mai «she will has finished» né «she will be left». E have non si omette mai: «I will graduated» è sbagliato.

💡 «Entro» o «per» + un momento del futuro → by: by Friday, by 6pm, by then.

💡 «Quando leggerai…» → by the time con il present simple: by the time you read this.

💡 will have + participio passato, uguale per tutte le persone e tutti i verbi: mai will has.

Situazione reale: pianificare una scadenza

"Will the report be ready before the client call?"

"Yes — by then, I will have finished the final draft."

"And the budget numbers?"

"Those too. By 6pm, we will have sent everything over."
