Hareket edatları

A2 · TemelEdatlar (prepositions)

Into the room, across the street, along the river: hareket edatları bir şeyin bir yerden başka bir yere tam olarak nasıl gittiğini gösterir.

Yer edatları (in, on, at) bir şeyin nerede olduğunu anlatır.

İngilizcede genellikle tam tersi olur: fiil nasıl hareket ettiğini söyler (walk, run, drive, swim), edat ise nereden geçtiğini: walked into, swam across, drove through.

"She walked into the room. (içeride biter)"
"He walked across the street.

Bunlar in ve on edatlarının “hareketli” biçimleridir.

"The cat jumped onto the table."
"She walked into the kitchen."
"He dropped his phone into the pool."

through, across ve over: bir taraftan öbür tarafa

Bu “-den” ekini from diye çevirme: “We drove from the tunnel” başka bir anlama gelir (tünelden yola çıktık). Tünelin içinden geçmek through, nehrin karşısına yüzmek across, dağların üstünden uçmak ya da çitin üstünden atlamak over olur. over, özellikle köprülerle, across anlamında da kullanılabilir (walk over the bridge).

"We drove through the tunnel."
"They walked across the bridge."
"The plane flew over the mountains."

“Sahil boyunca yürüdük” → We walked along the beach.

towards, “-e doğru” demektir; oraya varman gerekmez. to ise varış yerini gösterir, tıpkı “-e” eki gibi: “Berlin'e”, “istasyona” → to Berlin, to the station (at değil). Önemli bir istisna: “eve gitmek” sadece go home olur, to olmadan (walk home, drive home); “evde olmak” ise at home. Amerikan İngilizcesinde towards genellikle s olmadan, toward diye söylenir.

Bir yokuşu çıkmak ve inmek için up ve down kullanılır: “tepeden aşağı” → down the hill, “merdivenlerden yukarı” → up the stairs. Yine fiil hareketin biçimini söyleyebilir: The ball rolled down the hill (“Top tepeden aşağı yuvarlandı”).

"We walked along the beach for an hour."
"The car was heading towards the city center."

Gerçek hayattan İngilizce örnekler

"He ran into the room, out of breath."
"The kids jumped onto the trampoline."
"We walked along the river until sunset."
"The ball rolled across the floor and under the sofa."

Dikkat

✗She walked in the room and sat down.
✓She walked into the room and sat down.

“Odaya girdi” içeriye doğru bir hareketi anlatır: into. in daha çok bir şeyin nerede olduğunu anlatır.

✗We swam through the river to the other side.
✓We swam across the river to the other side.

Nehrin bir kıyısından öbür kıyısına geçmek across olur. through, etrafını saran bir şeyin içinden geçmek içindir: bir tünel, bir orman, bir kalabalık.

✗He walked to the door, but stopped halfway.
✓He walked towards the door, but stopped halfway.

✗I'm going to home now.
✓I'm going home now.

“Eve gidiyorum” sadece going home olur, to olmadan. Başka yerlerle to kullanılır: to Berlin, to the station.

✗She entered to the room.
✓She entered the room.

She walked into the room.

✗We drove from the tunnel.
✓We drove through the tunnel.

“Tünelden geçtik” cümlesindeki “-den” eki from demek değildir. Bir şeyin içinden geçmek through olur.

✗He ran to the exit direction.
✓He ran towards the exit.

“Çıkış yönüne” kelimesi kelimesine çevrilmez. Kısa ve doğal olanı towards (Amerikan İngilizcesinde toward). in the direction of the exit de doğrudur, ama the olmadan değil.

Türkçeyle karşılaştırma

Türkçede yol fiilde, hareketin biçimi ise “-erek” ile verilir: “Nehri yüzerek geçtiler”, “Odaya koşarak girdi”

İngilizcede genellikle tam tersi olur: fiil hareketin biçimini, edat ise yolu söyler: “They swam across the river”, “He ran into the room”. “They crossed the river swimming” yanlış değildir ama doğal gelmez. walk, run, swim ya da drive + edat gördüğünde kendine sor: nasıl hareket ediyor (fiil), nereden geçiyor (edat)?

Türkçede “-e” eki birçok hareketi birden anlatır: “odaya girdi”, “masaya atladı”, “Berlin'e gidiyoruz”, “kapıya doğru yürüdü”

İngilizcede bunlar ayrı edatlardır: içine girmek into (walked into the room), üstüne çıkmak onto (jumped onto the table), varış yeri to (to Berlin), yön towards (walked towards the door). go, drive ya da fly fiillerinden sonra varış yeri için at kullanılmaz: “We're driving to Berlin tomorrow.”

“-den geçmek” Türkçede birçok farklı yolu anlatır: “tünelden geçtik”, “köprüden geçtik”, “sahilden yürüdük”

İngilizcede önce yolu hayal et: bir şeyin içinden geçiyorsan through (through the tunnel), karşı tarafa geçiyorsan across (across the river), üstünden geçiyorsan over (over the fence), bir çizgiyi takip ediyorsan along (along the beach). from yalnızca başlangıç noktasını gösterir, “içinden geçmek” anlamına gelmez.

“Eve gidiyorum”, “Çıkışa doğru koştu”, “Çıkış yönüne koştu”

“Eve” kelimesindeki “-e” ekini to ile çevirme: go home, to olmadan. Diğer yerlerde to kullanılır: to Berlin, to the station. “-e doğru” ve “… yönüne” ise towards olur (Amerikan İngilizcesinde toward): “He ran towards the exit”; “to the exit direction” ya da “in direction of the exit” değil.

💡 Yolu hayal et: hareket içeride mi bitiyor? into. Üstünde mi bitiyor? onto. Bir taraftan girip öbür taraftan mı çıkıyor? through. Karşıya mı geçiyor? across.

💡 “Eve gitmek” = go home (to olmadan); “Berlin'e gitmek”, “istasyona gitmek” = to.

💡 “Sahil boyunca” = along; “tünelden geçmek” = through; “dağların üstünden” = over. “-den” her zaman from değildir.

Gerçek hayatta: yol tarif etmek

"How do I get to the museum from here?"

"Walk along this street, then go through the park."

"And after the park?"

"Cross the bridge, and it's right there — you can't miss it."
