"happy → unhappy"
"agree → disagree"
"possible → impossible"

"un-: unhappy, unfair, unlikely"
"dis-: disagree, dishonest, disappear"
"non-: nonsense, nonstop, nonexistent"
"in-/im-/il-/ir-: incorrect, impossible, illegal, irregular"

"redo the exercise (다시 하다)"
"overcook the pasta (너무 오래 익히다)"
"underpay an employee (너무 적게 주다)"
"preview a movie (미리 보다)"
"misunderstand the question (잘못 이해하다)"

"It's impossible to reschedule the meeting at such short notice."
"He completely misunderstood my instructions and overcooked the rice."
"The plan seems unrealistic given our current budget."
"Please preview the document before the presentation."

✗It's unpossible to finish today.
✓It's impossible to finish today.

✗That was a very unresponsible decision.
✓That was a very irresponsible decision.

✗He is very unmature for his age.
✓He is very immature for his age.

✗I unagree with your opinion.
✓I disagree with your opinion.

✗I missunderstood the question.
✓I misunderstood the question.

✗The design looks unbalance.
✓The design looks unbalanced.

이건 큰 도움이 돼요. re- ≈ “재-”(restart, reread), over- ≈ “과-”(overeat, overestimate), under- ≈ “과소-”(underestimate), mis- ≈ “오-”(misunderstand, misuse)예요. 한국어로 “잘못 이해하다”, “오해하다”라고 할 때 영어는 “understand wrong”이 아니라 한 단어 misunderstand로 말해요: “I misunderstood the question.”

영어에서 형용사는 unbalanced(“The design looks unbalanced.”)이고, 명사로는 보통 an imbalance를 써요(“a trade imbalance”).

"I think you misread my email — I said the deadline was moved up, not postponed."

"Oh no, that's so unfortunate. I already overslept this morning and now this."

"It's not impossible to still make it, but we'll need to redo the schedule quickly."

"Agreed. Let's not disagree about whose fault it was and just fix it."
