First conditional (condição real)

A2 · BásicoFrases condicionais (conditionals)

If it rains, I'll bring an umbrella.

  • O first conditional junta o present simple na oração com if e will + verbo base na oração principal
  • Depois de when, as soon as ou as long as também não vai will: “quando eu chegar” = when I get

Em português, a ideia é a mesma: “Se chover, vou levar um guarda-chuva” → “If it rains, I'll bring an umbrella.” E não esqueça o sujeito: “se chover” é “if it rains”, nunca “if rains”.

Em inglês, para um resultado futuro concreto, use will, ou a forma curta 'll: “If I have time, I'll call you.”

"If it rains, I'll bring an umbrella."
"If I have time, I will call you."

Sem will na oração com if

A regra mais importante: na oração com if de um first conditional, não se usa will, mesmo que a frase inteira fale do futuro. Ali vai o present simple (ou, para uma ação em andamento, o present continuous: I'll text you if I'm running late); o will fica na oração principal. Isso vale também quando a principal vem primeiro: “We'll miss the train if we don't hurry.” If she calls, tell her I'm out.”

Em inglês, when, as soon as, as long as, before, after e until funcionam como if: present simple. “When I get home, I'll call you”, “As soon as she arrives, we'll start”, nunca “When I will get home”.

Quando if quer dizer “se” no sentido de “será que” (whether), will é possível: “I don't know if she'll come” = “Não sei se ela vem / virá”. O mesmo vale para when numa pergunta indireta: “I don't know when she'll arrive” = “Não sei quando ela vai chegar”. E num pedido educado, will expressa boa vontade: “If you'll wait here, I'll get the manager.” Para uma condição normal: if + present simple.

"We'll miss the train if we don't hurry."
"If she calls, tell her I'm out."

Então “Se você não estudar, não vai passar” se diz “Unless you study…” ou “If you don't study…”, nunca “Unless you don't study…”.

Na oração principal, will pode ser trocado por outro verbo modal, conforme o grau de certeza: can (poder), could (“a gente podia”, para sugerir), might (talvez). “If you're free tonight, we could grab dinner.”

"Unless you study, you won't pass."
"If you're free tonight, we could grab dinner."

Inglês de verdade

"I'll text you if I'm running late."
"If the weather is nice, we'll go to the beach."
"If you email me, I'll reply right away."
"Unless something changes, we'll leave at nine."

Atenção

✗When I will get home, I'll call you.
✓When I get home, I'll call you.

✗If it will rain, I'll bring an umbrella.
✓If it rains, I'll bring an umbrella.

“Se chover” vira present simple: if it rains. O will vai na oração principal.

✗If I will have time, I will call you.
✓If I have time, I will call you.

Só a oração principal leva will. “Se eu tiver tempo” = If I have time.

✗If rains, I'll bring an umbrella.
✓If it rains, I'll bring an umbrella.

✗Unless you will study, you won't pass.
✓Unless you study, you won't pass.

✗Unless you don't study, you won't pass.
✓Unless you study, you won't pass.

✗If I have time tomorrow, I call you.
✓If I have time tomorrow, I'll call you.

Como o verbo português “parece futuro”, dá vontade de pôr will, mas depois de if vai o present simple: “If it rains”, não “If it will rain”; “If I have time”, não “If I will have time”. O will só aparece na oração principal: “vou levar / levarei” → “I'll bring”.

Em inglês, when, as soon as, as long as, before, after e until funcionam como if: present simple, sem will. “When I get home, I'll call you.”, “As soon as she arrives, we'll start.”

“If I have time tomorrow, I call you” soa errado: com o presente na principal, o inglês expressa um hábito ou uma regra geral (“If I have time, I call my mum” = é o que eu costumo fazer).

💡 “Se chover” = if it rains: depois de if, present simple, mesmo que o português use o futuro do subjuntivo.

💡 “Quando eu chegar…” = When I get… Depois de if, unless, when e as soon as (condição ou momento futuro): sem will.

💡 Will vai na oração principal: I'll call you, não I call you.

💡 Unless já é negativo: Unless you study, não Unless you don't study.

Na vida real: fazendo planos

"Are we still on for the picnic tomorrow?"

"If it doesn't rain, definitely. If it does, we'll just reschedule."

"Sounds good. I'll text you in the morning if the forecast changes."

"Perfect — unless I hear otherwise, I'll see you at noon."
