I want you to call me. She asked him to close the door.

  • want や would like のあとに that節は使いません:「あなたに〜してほしい」= I want you to…
  • 人の前に to は付けません:「彼に頼む」= ask him(ask to him ではない)
(I want you not to worry)。 I don't want you to worry

I want you to call me tonight。to を落とした “I want you call me” や、that節の “I want that you call me” にはしません。

"I want you to call me tonight."
"She asked him to close the door."

want、ask、tell、advise、invite、encourage、expect、persuade、warn、remind、allow、would like は、どれも「動詞+目的語+ to不定詞」の形をとります。

「彼にドアを閉めるよう頼んだ」→ She asked him to close the door(“asked to him” ではありません)。 「医者に行くよう彼女に勧めた」→ He advised her to see a doctor。「子どもたちに静かにするように言った」→ We told the kids to be quiet。

She told me to wait で、“She said me to wait” とは言いません。

「〜させる」の make と let には to が付きません:Let me help(手伝わせて)、He made me wait(彼は私を待たせた)。“let me to help” や “made me to wait” は間違いです。 「来てほしいと思う」の hope は “I hope you can come” と言い、“I hope you to come” とは言いません。suggest も “He suggested (that) I wait” で、“He suggested me to wait” ではありません。

"We told the kids to be quiet."
"He advised her to see a doctor."
"They invited us to join them for dinner."

「遅れないように彼らに注意した」→ We warned them not to be late。

want の場合、日常会話では最初の動詞を否定するのがふつうです:「心配してほしくない」→ I don't want you to worry。I want you not to worry

"I want you not to worry."
"We warned them not to be late."

「手伝いましょうか?」(私に手伝ってほしいですか?)→ Would you like me to help you?「先生は私たちに金曜日までに終わらせることを求めている」→ The teacher expects us to finish by Friday。

"The teacher expects us to finish by Friday."
"Would you like me to help you?"

"I'd like you to meet my sister."
"The coach told the team to keep practicing."
"She persuaded him to change his mind."
"My parents encouraged me to study abroad."

注意

✗She asked to him to close the door.
✓She asked him to close the door.

✗She said me to wait.
✓She told me to wait.

✗She asked him close the door.
✓She asked him to close the door.

✗My mother made me to study every day.
✓My mother made me study every day.

✗I want you don't worry.
✓I want you not to worry.

I don't want you to worry.

✗I hope you to come to the party.
✓I hope you can come to the party.

I hope you can come か、I want you to come にしましょう。

✗I want that you call me tonight.
✓I want you to call me tonight.

英語では「人に」の部分が動詞のすぐあとの目的語になり、「〜するように」が to不定詞になります:“I want you to come”、“She asked him to close the door”、“We told the kids to be quiet”。 目的語は me、him、her、us、them の形にします(“I want he to call me” ではありません)。

ask、tell、advise、warn のあとでは、人の前に to を付けません:“She asked him to…”、“She told me to…”。“asked to him”、“said to me to wait” は間違いです。

make と let は、このレッスンの動詞と違い、to を付けずに原形を続けます:“My mother made me study”、“Let me help you”。“made me to study”、“let me to help” は間違いです。ただし、allow や encourage、persuade には to が必要です:“They allowed us to leave early.”

Would you like me to help you?

💡 「私に待つように言った」= She told me to wait(said me ではない)。make / let のあとは to なし。

"Can you remind me to pack my charger?"

"Sure. I also want you to double-check the tickets before we leave."

"Will do. The airline advised us to arrive two hours early."

"Good thing you told me — I almost forgot."
