Wednesday trips up a lot of learners — it's spelled with a silent "d" after the "e": W-E-D-N-E-S-D-A-Y.

Weekdays and weekend

Weekdays

Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday – Friday

The weekend

Saturday and Sunday

"I work on weekdays."

"I relax on the weekend."

Lingverly uses American English by default — on the weekend. You'll also hear at the weekend — that's common in British English.

"Weekday" and "weekend" are just the standard vocabulary for these two groups of days — not every job or school follows a Monday-to-Friday schedule.

Capital letters

Days of the week always begin with a capital letter in English — even in the middle of a sentence.

Correct

Monday, Friday

Incorrect

monday, friday

I work on Monday.

NOT: I work on monday.

Using "on" with days

English uses on before a day name.

on Mondayon Tuesdayon Fridayon Saturday

"I work on Monday."

"The class is on Wednesday."

"We go shopping on Saturday."

For something that happens every week, add "-s":

on Mondayson Fridays

"The office is closed on Sundays." — meaning every Sunday, not just this one.

Today, tomorrow, yesterday

today · tomorrow · yesterday — pick a day below and see what comes right before and after it.

Today is Monday.

Tomorrow is Tuesday.

Yesterday was Sunday.

If today is Friday, what is tomorrow?

If today is Monday, what was yesterday?

Real life

Here's one example week — a mix of work, health, and free time.

Monday: English class

Tuesday: the gym

Wednesday: a dentist appointment

Thursday: a free evening

Friday: a movie with friends

Saturday: grocery shopping

Sunday: family lunch

"What day is English class?"

"It's on Monday."

"What do you do on Saturdays?"

"I go grocery shopping."

"Are you free on Thursday evening?"

"Yes — that's my free evening."
